I decided to pursue MBA from Baruch College, Zicklin School of Business, NYC, USA primarily for 5 reasons. First, Its location; New York is supposed to be the center of all financial activities in the world. Baruch is well known name in the field of Finance and accounting in New York. Second, student diversity; this is one of those few schools in US who are known for student diversity. Being part of this school I am learning in a truly diverse class comprising of people from China, Columbia, Turkey, Sweden, Hongkong, India, Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, USA, and Latin America. This is a best place to study if you are looking for student diversity. Third, Scholl has Low tuition cost and offers financial aid. Fourth, Networking opportunities to students, and fifth and last, largest Indian student community. One advise I would like to give to student that before coming to Baruch they should brush up their past readings and basics in accounting/statistics/excel/finance to avoid any immediate shock because the course structure is very vigorous particularly for Honors MBA program.

Selection process is quite fair and transparent. Average GMAT score for Full Time Honors MBA is around 640. Admission committee also looks for quality of work experience, diversity, essays, and recommendation. Every component has a role to play in the selection process. Apart from average GMAT Score, you need to write appealing essays to the school, it is one thing which you can make in your favor by articulate writing and which carries lot of weight. Its your chance to prove yourself beyond GMAT score. Your work experience quality, accreditations, achievements, and recommendations all play equal role. Being an international candidate one has to take the TOEFL test as well. It is preferable to apply in first round of admission process to be considered for scholarship/graduate assistantship. It is also advisable to work on visa process simultaneously because getting financial documents ready in time is also one of the biggest tasks, which needs proper planning. After getting the admission decision one can plan for travel to USA. With proper planning one can avoid travel difficulties, things to carry and visa related problems.

As far as the scholarship/funding opportunities are concerned, I can advise prospective student to apply in first round of admission process. It is this time when university has resources for allocation of scholarship/graduate assistantship. If you have average GMAT score and an appealing application, you have all the chances of securing scholarship/graduate assistantship. However, there is no denying of the fact that there is a fierce competition among students seeking financial aid/scholarship. Thus, it is in your best interest to plan in advance and work on your application.

Baruch is an excellent business school if you really want to build upon your skills and want to learn academically and professionally. The quality of faculty and staff is very good. Students are challenged academically to think beyond boundaries and bring about their own solutions/ideas to various work/management related problems. Some of the faculties are also invited from Ivy League schools. Faculties on campus also have professional background and research orientation. The school has its own brand in the accounting and finance profession. New courses are introduced and students have choice to select electives from wide array of topics. Faculty and staff are very helpful and students get proper timely feedback from them.

My life experience has been good with the school. Besides curriculum, student are also engaged in career development and extra curricular events, sports events, and networking events. Baruch MBA students represents on various clubs and forums for networking and developing leadership skills and knowledge on various subjects. The idea of such clubs and events is to bridge the gap between class room teaching and practical world. Students also take part in blood donation camps, social events, and other professional clubs activities. Besides, Indian students association also works for the common cause of Indian student community at college and gives them a chance to promote the Indian culture outside their country. School also provide excellent library facility, it also has a sabotnic center which provide online trading learning opportunity to students. The only drawback of the school is having no hostel facility. I am staying off campus which is quite expensive in New York City.

Although, the country is facing one of the biggest challenge of slow down and recession in economy, lot of career events and on campus recruiting events are organized regularly, which connects students to recruiters. Baruch Students are still able to secure good positions/internships. Although, there is no denying of the fact that this year is really challenging for all business students, school is working hard to prepare its student to secure good positions across the industries. There is a separate department, Graduate Career Management Center (GCMC) who continuously work for preparing students to take up internship positions and in networking with the recruiters. Joint effort of the school and students helps a student to secure a good position in the industry. Besides student alumni association is also helpful in connecting students with recruiters.
