Study hard, make sure you pick the right courses offered by the right people.
Visas- Was part of the ¿Drop-Off¿ program. Had to mail all my documents to Chennai. It can be categorized as ¿easy¿. GRE/TOEFL were required. I used Barrons and did not attend any coaching classes. Easy to get tickets. Flew KLM/NorthWest. I Wouldn¿t recommend it. No student fare was offered. Landed at Dayton, OH. Port of entry ¿ Detroit. The airport is about 15 miles from the institution? KLM allowed 50 kgs.of baggage. No excess baggage was allowed. Did not face any issues with immigration. There was meet and greet available.
Research Assistant/Teaching Assistant/Scholarships.
Happy with the program. Some professors were exceptionally good and some needed improvement.
I was living Off-Campus in an apartment. The lecture halls are very good. Our library is one of the best.Full sports facilities are available. It wasn¿t very easy for international students to get part time jobs back then (2001/2002). I hear it¿s a lot better now. Very hospitable people. Night life is not the best. Winters are severe. There is an Indian student society. They handled International festivals. India nite, etc.
The university had a career services division but it wasn¿t very helpful. If the market is good, then yes it is easy for international students to get jobs. Ther are a few companies which conduct just on-campus interviews. Not too many international organization visit the university a few do, mostly the ones in the vicinity. The work permit process is not too bad. can be overwhelming at times. I am not a part of the alumni network but from what I have heard, it is always up to something or the other. The alumni society claims to help with placements. Never resorted to it. I have personally never sorted any help from it, so I cannot comment.
