If you are interested in research, then this is a very good place for you.Its really worth studying here if you have afunding and its easy to get if you are willing to really work hard.

I had to write TOEFL and GRE to gain admission. I did attend coaching classes. I had to come here on a student visa (F1) and I did attend an interview. It was pretty easy…It was easy to get tickets but it was not a student fare. I flew British Airways. The flight was very good and I landed at Metro Detroit airport which is a 30-min drive from my institution. I was allowed to carry 2 baggages (each weighing upto 30kg) and a hand luggage. You had to pay for every extra kg you carried, but no extra baggages were allowed. I did not face any immigration issues. The University did not offer any meet and greet services at the airport.

Graduate teaching and research assistants (GTA and GRA) have a full tuition fee waiver and also receive a stipend. The spouses of GTAs and GRAs have a 75% tuition waiver. Apart from that, the university offers several other individual scholarships to deserving students.

The program structure is good and the Profs are great. Lecture halls are well furnished with media carts and projectors in all the halls. There are 5 libraries on campus including the medical library. They have a wide collection of books, journals, CD libraries and computers. They have after hour facilities and individual study rooms.

I am living in a univ accommodation. It is a regular one bedroom apartment with a living room and a kitchen. Basic utilities, internet and TV cable services included in rent. It is easy to find a univ job if applied 15 to 20 days before the sem commences. Social scene within campus is quite safe and peaceful but outside the campus it could be otherwise. The nightlife here is the usual US night life. Weather in this city is great in summer and fall but winters are extremely cold and intolerable at times. There is an Intl student society which handles cultural events and orientations.

The univ does have a placement cell, but finding a job depends on the skills of the individual. The campus placement cell is available and they have their own website where they post jobs. You can upload your resume and search for jobs that meet your needs. The work permit process depends on the employer who hires you. If the employer is willing to process your work permit, then its easy ,but there are employers who reject your application because you do not have a work permit. There is an alumni society which conducts workshops and other activities which are essential for the current students.
