I have nothing but praise for the Social Science program at ChicoI found the program to be of great value. The professors were excellent. They were very helpful and helped me plan my program well.I have now found a job in Southern California and I think I owe it all to my education at CSU, Chico.

Electrical Engineering is one of the best courses offered in the Chico State. Faculties are really helpful, and can go...out of their way to help students with anything. I wish I had more options for selecting classes, but whatever classes are offered, give very good exposure to real world scenarios and examples. Like some other universities, there is no "Major" selection ( Like major in VLSI, or wireless networking) But it has its own advantages. One of the major advantage is that you can switch field for real job very easily, because you have done little bit of everything. Department Chair Dr.Ghandakly is helping students a lot, and is constantly improving syllabus to make best out of it.Very high admit rate. I specially need to mention Ms.Rossane Kenoyer here, for her very fast response. Usually average funding per student is $1000-$1500 for whole course. And it is usually given ONLY for first semester. Some TA/RA positions available, but those are hard to get.Once you get in rhythm, it is very easy to get good grades in Electrical Engineering.lectures are typically 4 hrs per week per subject. Attendance carries points.Networking courses are good, and give real hands-on experience. Expensive CISCO routers and switches are available for practice, and professors do make good use of those. It is a small town, so living is cheap. And trust me, you won't find better people anywhere else. Locals have very positive attitude and are very friendly. Chico boasts of 80% student population, so everything here is made for students. So you'll find plenty of clubs and fun places around. However nearest International Airport is San Francisco, which is 200 miles far. Good Public transport available in Chico.I am writing this review on 7/10/2008, and according to current situation, job market is tough overall. It is not only here, but overall job market has suffered and has very bad impact on jobs specially for international students. This situation might be better after sometime, and this review might be void. That is why I have included date. Though Placement center helps you, but there are less companies for international students who visits campus for job fair. Improvement is needed to bring more companies which also take international students. Alumni are helpful though.

It was around 2 years ago when I was looking for universities in United States. I ended up with 10 universities to be o...n my list. One of them was California State University, Chico. It was the one I ended up going to for my masters. Chico State thats what it is called. It is a great place to study. I feel very lucky to choose this University. It is not a very huge university but it has a very good education system. It provides you all what one is looking for in a University. Apart from University Chico is a small college town which makes it more attractive. Everything revolves around university itself. Weather is very nice all around the year apart from 2 months summer; however I found summer to be more fun because of Thursday farmers market. It also gives you other opportunities to explore with your career goals. There are so many extra curricular activity offered you can never stop learning. After coming to Chico State I feel like learning each and everything. Getting admission totally depend on your various scores, however I will say it was little easy to get in compared to other universities. It was a very simple application process and one day I got my I-20, it was the first one. Chico State has special International student representative that helps answering any questions from life in Chico to gaining admission in Chico. Also some of the students have formed groups that help new students with temporary accommodations, pickups and all. My travel experience was pretty good, I enjoyed every minute of it. Everything seems to be new and exciting lot of new stuff to learn, new culture, different food, etc.It is quite difficult for Funding and Scholarships in CSU system itself. However as compared to other universities CSU system charges very nominal fees. There are chances to get some aid after first semester depending on your performance. However people getting this aid are very few. As in my case computer science offers Varity of courses. The best part is if you feel that some course is not offered in this university then you can also take course from some other university and that will be counted in your program. Computer science department is very flexible with courses. I really liked some of the professors. Like one of my professor who taught us Computer Architecture was so good that I actually liked the course, which I never use to like until I took this class with him. It was a great experience.Chico is really a fun place apart from studies. There are tons of activities to do. It has a creek swimming pool; it is a good attraction for summers. Believe me its huge and the best part is its all natural flowing water, so your eyes wont hurt after coming out of it. There is Bidwell Park that is one of the largest parks in US. Very beautiful and weather is very pleasant all around the year. It is little cold in winters but doesnt snow, though if you like to see snow then just drive 45 miles from Chico and you can see it. People in Chico are extremely friendly, In Chico I never felt away from home. Everybody is so friendly and helpful you never miss home. Actually after completing my master I wasnt feeling like leaving Chico, but I guess life moves on. You have to keep moving in life. Chico is around 180 miles away from the heart of Silicon Valley. Chico State Career Fair always has more than 100 companies coming to Chico for recruiting students. Being close to Silicon Valley make Chico State more attractive since living cost is very low and you are not far away from Silicon Valley. Chico State is also one of the six schools in California to offer SAP

Life in Chico was really great with Indian and International friends. It was a new experience learning different cultur...es and sharing our culture across. People are friendly over here. There are lots of organizations on campus which you can join .A lot events are held, I like the International Festival!!!! The CS dept has some good courses on DB, Programming Languages and AI. The Professors are helpful and available to help you in office hours. Your ideas are always welcome. And do have your program plan very clear .If there are any concerns about the rules, ASK advisor. They will be there to help you. Dont make any assumptions!! If you have good TOEFL score you should be good to go! Keep the financial documents ready and stay confident. The VISA process does take a long time (atleast Mumbai) so keep your calm. And don't forget to take your stamped passport in the evening :) (Post might take longer!!) This is a State university so fees are pretty less .But if your GPA remains good you can be eligible for 3 units waiver that is 1050$ . So study well and get the waiver. The courses are good for DB , AI,Networking and prog langs and Profs are also very helpful. If these are some of your interests then sure its the worth it. Its only max 3 hrs lecture in a day so rest of the time enjoy reading in library :) Oh there is also on-campus job in your routine :) Earn and learn !!!Chico is 3hrs drive from San Fransisco and a country side place. So the cost of living is cheap though staying in one of the costliest states. On campus job will help you taking care of monthly expenses and accommodation is easy to get. There are lots of clubs on campus to keep your learning going on.....there are social and technical societies. So its all about what interests you!!Ya besides studies you need to keep on trying for job .There are career/job fair on campus so if your profile is as per the companies interest you get your job!!! There is alumni association where we can stay in touch with ex-chicoit's. The advantage is silicon valley is just 3 hrs from Chico, so makes life a bit easy. So keep good GPA and take help from on campus career/internship center. Currently I am working at IBM as Intern through the University Education Program. If you have some prior work experience that can put you one step ahead.

I am really enjoying my study at Chico State. I selected Chico state based on the quality education offered and the rea...sonable fee structure. The diversity found at Chico state is unique feature in order to understand multicolored world and learn from each other. I have experienced this fact while dealing with many people for various projects and really appreciate it. Course content is very good in order to prepare candidates for industry world. People are very nice. Specially support from department chair, faculties and international student advisers is really appreciable. There are lot of on-campus activities, projects and organizations you can participate in based on your interest. Process of admission is almost the same as other universities. Good GRE, TOEFL and undergraduate scores, a well written SOP, and good recos will make you stand. All the best. Some tuition fee waivers are offered based on academic performance. You can land up with on-campus part time job. Also there are some TA positions available with department.I found course content very satisfactory. Faculties are really supportive.People are very friendly and are ready to help at any time. Coming to the weather, it has got both extremes. Indian Student Association (ISA) helps a lot for new coming students to start their journey here.University has a internship center and help students by arranging job fairs at campus. Students also search for jobs their own and very good number of them are successful in getting through good companies.
